Unpopular opinion: I don’t really like the P1800 (though that color is great). Now the 1800ES: that is a different story.

I’ve seen pictures that make me think I like the P1800 (like this one) and then I see them in person and they just don’t look great to me. It could be that all the ones I have seen in person have hideous chrome wheels and massive wheel gap.

I think that works well enough, though I think Volvo was right to downplay that swoop on the door in the production model. At least it isn’t chromed here.

I am so pro-p1800 that I have pictures of them from 20 to 25 years ago, and finding all of the 1800 variants at the Volvo Museum in Göteborg was mission #1 when I was there.

It’s also my mom’s favorite car and the first “sports car” she ever drove. I think it’s genetic.

That’s a very astute observation. I definitely prefer the rounded production version of the ES, but it was interesting to see what designs they considered. I’m glad they went with the (now) iconic approach.
